World Café - St. Pete Initiative

The City of St. Petersburg, the University of South Florida St. Petersburg, the Florida Council of Churches, The Connection Partners, and a team of community partners are collaborating to select and train up to 50 citizen leaders in the art of hosting conversations that matter.

Our goal is to create a culture of conversational leadership in St. Petersburg by hosting opportunities to increase understanding, empathy, and an atmosphere conducive to transformational growth and positive change.

Led by Amy Lenzo, Director of Learning Programs at The World Café Community Foundation, and senior World Café host Frances Baldwin, this 11-week online course has been customized specifically for an ongoing community of practice in St. Pete.

The training is open to anyone 18 or older who lives, works, studies or volunteers in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The 11-Week Training course will begin
Participants will attend class (virtually) each Monday evening  from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm from Sept. 28th – Dec. 23rd, 2020.

In the spirit of “Paying it Forward” for the opportunity to be trained in this unique program, free of charge, we asked all applicants to make a commitment for our community’s collective benefit.

By submitting the application, prospective participants made the following commitments that they:

  • Would like to be trained as a World Café Host to help guide St. Petersburg in more listening and understanding as a City of Compassion and a City of Peace

  • Will host a minimum of two World Cafes in your neighborhood, community, or industry by the end of 2021.  You will document and report back. (This can be done in partnership with other trained hosts.)

  • Understand that the City of St. Petersburg and a team of community partners is paying to make this training possible at no financial cost to you. (The standard World Café Signature Learning Program:  Hosting Fundamentals is offered twice a year for a tuition of $800 online at www.theworldcafe.com.)

  • Will attend all eleven (11) of the online weekly sessions.  They happen Monday nights September 28th – December 7th from 7pm to 9pm.  We understand that an eleven-week commitment may be challenging.  Each session will be recorded and available for viewing afterward.  We expect that you will make time to listen to any missed session sometime that week before we gather again virtually the following Monday.
